Sarfraz Ahmed is the current captain of the Pakistani cricket team and became the youngest person to win the Sitara-i-Imtiaz. Sarfraz has always maintained a calm outlook on the field, both in the situations of loss and victory, but is known to play the game quite aggressively and thrives best under pressure. He is an excellent wicket keeper and has managed to not be overshadowed by the lineage of players of the likes of Wasim Bari, Umar Akmal, Rashid Latif and so on.

Sarfraz Ahmed was born on May 22nd in 1987 in the state of Sindh in Pakistan. He got married to Syeda Khusbhat in 2015 and has a son out of the wedlock named Abdullah. His journey in cricket has not been easy as he had to go against the wishes of his father who wanted him to become a teacher or do a corporate job. Sarfraz Ahmed’s International Cricket Career

He didn’t get much of a break in the international cricket scenario and the shining point that brought Sarfraz into the limelight was the ICC U19 World Cup in 2006 where he led Pakistan’s team to victory. He made his ODI debut when he was called as a replacement for Kamran Akmal, who had an injury and couldn’t play. Although Sarfraz didn’t get a chance to bat, but that put him in the limelight for international cricket. Later in 2007 he was selected ahead of Kamran Akmal for the Asia Cup. His first major tournament as captain was the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and the team won against South Africa and Sri Lanka and entered the semifinals.

 

Achievements: –

  • He was rewarded Man of the Match in the 2015 Cricket World Cup in his first match in the series.
  • In his second match, he scored 101 runs against Ireland and became Man of the match again and this victory managed to put Pakistan in the Quarterfinals.
  • He officially became the captain of the Pakistan team in ODI matches following the resignation of Azhar Ali on February 9, 2017.
  • Moreover, Pakistan has yet to lose a single T20 match under Sarfraz’s captaincy

Sarfraz Ahmed Record as T20 Captain

He has proven himself to be quite potent in the T20 cricket. He made his T20 debut in the Pakistan versus England match held in Dubai on February 19th, 2010 in which he only got a chance of playing 5 balls and making 5 runs before being struck out by Bresnon. He was appointed the captain of the national T20 team on April 5th, 2016 and won his first T20 match against England by 9 wickets. Pakistan also has an unbeaten 9 series after Zimbabwe’s Tri Nation Series of 2018. Pakistan’s cricket team has reached new heights under the captaincy of Sarfraz and although he had a slow start, he has surely proven his talent and potential.

Sarfraz Ahmed has been a part of the Quetta Gladiators since its beginning and has led the team through many victories and even though the team managed to enter the semifinals in both 2016 and 2017, they have not yet managed to win the series.
